On My Table

November 14, 2013 | 6 Comments

Donuts and bacon and blurry hands
Research and safety, health commands
No tree nuts! No seeds! No dairy! No soy!
But please make us food we can still enjoy!
This is my mission, my sudden delight
Though in the past it was such a fight
Necessity called, I answered, no doubt
I learned what baking was all about
From teaspoons to measures with my free hand
I’ve burned things and spiced things and made things bland
So much in the compost, and more in the trash
The market loves seeing me lay down the cash
An allergy poem, I never imagined
I got this prompt, and look what happened

*This month I’m participating in a writing prompt project, which you can find here-

  1. How awesome are you! Love the poem! I do not envy your venture into the world of cooking with all the restrictions, and I am so proud of you!

  2. Ha! I’m so impressed by your rhymes … this is great. Also happy you’re enjoying the cooking (or the fruits of your labors); it doesn’t seem like a long time ago at all that you were like ARGH.

Thank you! I walk around with rhymes in my head, I guess it’s my brain trying to achieve order amongst chaos! And yes, I guess I’ve lowered the stakes by cooking every single thing every single day, so when something goes to crap, it’s less of a biggie these days! It’s still a pain in the rear, being dictated by food allergies, but it could be worse!
