In The Cupboard
(to calm me, detox me, remake me into a… Yogi? Bear?)
The most expensive chocolate chips in the world!
(not really, but they are almost $5 a bag, and the only ones allergen-free)
Weird things like sucanat and xanthan gum
(one smells icky, the other turns out to not be allergy safe, so neither are used)
Canned beans and tomatoes from Costo
(enough to make lotsa chili this Winter!)
(six sorts of flour! sugars galore!)
Way at the top- rice cereal
Way at the bottom- critter kibble
There are times it doesn’t feel like enough. Times we run out of this-that-or the other, and end up having a mish-mashed meal with whatever we found in the back-back. But lack is an illusion, and there has never been a time, no matter how tight, that the cupboard was truly bare. I remind myself of that when my belly is being particularly persnickety, and demands something better than soup. Hush now, belly, and be grateful for the here and now.
