Trauma Recovery – Shame Resilience – Self-Compassion – Coping With Chronic Pain

Last night was long, dark, and lonely
Sleep hid in the shadows
I stalked it with tightly clasped eyes
It was finally caught in dawn’s first rays

Two hours later I woke to a text
As morning arrived sourly to others
I scolded the hour, “Behave yourself!”
It resisted my unconvincing tone

I sat with coffee, journal, and pen
Within my chest- just a frost
Yet on the other side of the pane
Hung a stellar orb, shrouded in gray

How graceful my eye fell upon it!
A Sun-Star filtered to a point so serene
I could look it fully in the face!
I felt my heart thaw and beat with purpose

When all in the world seems unfit
And heady thoughts consume
I lift my sight beyond menial troubles
To find dependable solace in the sky
