Connect The Dots

February 6, 2014 | 4 Comments

Perpetually seeking a do-over
To walk backward with my experience
But the arrow of time is fixed
And moves in a forward direction

It drags me along like a child
Whose eyes are focused on a storefront
It’s clutching my sticky hands
As I trip over idle toes

My head snaps back to connect the dots
That form my life-path, behind
It dawns on me in a painful way-
Realization, profound

All the things I want
Have already come to pass
While I trudged along, oblivious
The present caught on the peripheral

My neck hurts
I have craned too far, too long
I have nowhere to go
But on

  1. Sometimes life demands that we just get through it, and we miss the treasures hidden there. It is never too late to find new ones, though. Well said.

  2. I like it. Pensive. So many of us get caught up in looking backwrds at what might have been, instead of forward at what can be.
