On The Road

I met a girl on the road
Her dirty blond hair, half tied up
Small hand dragging an invisible weight
Through rural dirt

“Who are you?” I inquired
Her hazel eyes answered with tears
And they were mine
It took so long to see

“Why are you out here alone?”
She motioned to the dragged-thing
I spied the trail it left behind
The burden tracks

I cursed the prairie sky
And took her hand in my own
We continued along together
Walking our pain

We are all worthy of love and belonging, and it starts here. Befriend yourself. <3
