Coming Up Green

From depths of lack
A solemn pack
Crawls upon the scene

Fed by pain
Such ground they gain
My power I must glean

Near my heart
The snarls start
I’m tempted by the fiend

Hands in fists
Guts in twists
Emotions come up green

The only course
Find the source
I shall not be demeaned

Take a stand
Reclaim the land
On self-compassion, lean

O jealousy! thou magnifier of trifles. ~Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller

    1. Thank you! I wanted to write a nice narrative about envy, and how it’s nothing to be ashamed of, because it comes from a place of pain, but sometimes a poem is the best way for me to describe such deep thoughts.

  1. Yes, indeed. Green is the color of life but also of death. Compassion for others and for self both need a firm place to stand lest envy rot like the gangrene of the soul.
