Something Changed

April 21, 2014 | 16 Comments

The woman on the other side
Of the mirror
Was not me

I was frightened
By all between us
Beyond glass and amalgam

Years of turmoil, contained
By this skin-
Seemingly thin

The woman I was
Yet persistent

My reflection was
Out of focus

Timid eyes
Skimmed the surface
But dared not zero in

And so did I
Skitter across
The pools of my life

Hurried and scattered
Not allowing
Dust or light to settle

Yet only when I stopped
Could the colors
Begin to seep

And only when I stared
Would the truth
Become clear

When the woman in the mirror,
Bounced back

This is what I found-
I am she

  1. What a lovely story of your fashion coming-out party! And what a truly touching poem about being enough! And – what truly wonderful pictures of my girl being what she has always been – beautiful… And hot!!! <3

    • Angie

Thank you, Steve! 😀 I am so glad you followed the link and read the whole story! Feels scary, but also empowering to share.

  2. Just read your friends post…very uplifting. Angie, I too am very tall and always wanted to slim my way into being smaller (shrinking into the background) I hated myself. But we amazonian, we can lift our heads high and in the face of everyone and everything that has made us feel bad, we can scream ‘this is me!’ xxxx

  3. There’s always a story behind every picture – and what a story… I read the whole of your friend’s piece and want to send lots of hugs your way <3

It's beautiful to see you really shining 🙂
