Mother Playing With Child - Mary Cassatt

Mother Playing With Child – Mary Cassatt

It is Thursday
A girl plops into her mother’s lap, as wind caresses their hair, the embrace is Cassatt-worthy

It is Friday
The blossoms have fallen from the apple tree, and the pink hue is gone

It is Saturday
The photo shows a round belly, swollen with potential, a purposeful convexity

The tendril of grief slips down into my heart, coiling there, like a spring
The rebound is caught in my neck, a painful lump in my throat
I choke on it as I fight to express myself, to seek comfort

It is Anyday
And grief is within me, and without, and I move along, quite loved
