Essence Of Summer
A lovely hike in the woods today with my Leading Man. We heard thunder in the distance upon hitting the trail, so decided to not travel far. We tramped along an even path and took our time photographing flowers.
At times as I leaned in close with my small camera set to macro, pollinators would buzz upon the scene, settling themselves in for a close-up.
The air was cool and rain impending. We returned to the car with slow, steady heartbeats. Our average hiking speed was one mile per hour.
Some hikes are restorative in a simple, colorful way. Some days calves and hamstrings are content without an incline. Some paths are best when only traversed by the occasional tree root, and lined alongside with wild flowers.
The essence of Summer, on this Solstice Day, is the bright gift of nature, which shines even as the thunderclouds roll.
