Let’s Try Self-Kindness

Let's Try Self-Kindness by #selfcompassion #recovery
One aspect of Kristen Neff’s definition of self-compassion is self-kindness.

Self-kindness means speaking to myself the way I’d speak to someone I love.
While that’s true, I’d also be better off if I spoke to myself as kindly as I speak to strangers!

We’re so much harder on ourselves than we are on others.

It’s easier to smile and extend kindness to:
the market checker,
the bank teller,
the nurse taking our vitals,
the UPS delivery person,
ANYONE other than ourselves!

It’s ok, though. Knowing we are capable of kindness toward others, shows us we can learn to be nice to ourselves.

Let’s try!

Hi! Kristin Neff’s work has helped me so much in my healing journey. I am grateful, despite the difficulty I experience in learning her practices. Hooray for steps forward! <3

  1. We so often put ourselves last, Angie…so hard to get out of the habit, a life’s work really. I have learned to be little kinder to myself over the years. Sending love xx

Hi Jane! I love hearing that you’ve learned to be kinder over the years. I feel that way, too, but only for about a year now. Looking forward to more practice and more healing. Thanks for stopping by! <3
