What I Read This Week – Posts About Trauma, Chronic Pain, and Intention

I hope you’re finding some beauty in November. My participation in NaNoWriMo is sucking up my time and energy, but I wanted to stop in and share a few posts I enjoyed this week. The list is mostly about chronic pain, but there is one post about how childhood trauma can affect us, and another that’s focused on self-care in the cold months.… Continue reading

Fractured – A Complex PTSD Poem

Fractured - A Complex PTSD Poem by SoAngieWrites.com #trauma #recovery #poetry #PTSD

A broken teacup
A shattered sense of safety
A fractured sense of self

I glue the first together
It doesn’t hold water
Succulents don’t need much

I drag the second along
To traverse a mis-filtered world
Hoping discomfort desensitizes me

I wear the final like a film
And line my eyes in black
The disconnect lies in the mirror

By Sharing Resources, We Heal Together

By Sharing Resources, We Heal Together by SoAngieWrites.com #PTSD #community #spoonie

The day in, day out challenges of living with PTSD, or other health diagnoses, can wear a person down. Symptoms greet us in the morning, and tuck us in at night. Perceptions are altered by trauma or pain, and life looks a little off. It’s hard. It’s really hard!

For those with PTSD, or other long-term health challenges, recovery is less about arrival, and more about resilience.… Continue reading

Tending to the Pain of Comparison, Scarcity, and Shame

Tending to the Pain of Comparison, Scarcity, and Shame by SoAngieWrites.com #recovery #PTSD #spoonie

Injecting humor into the week’s lousy start via Snapchat

Last week started out kinda crappy. I was in a lot of physical pain and was making brave choices about my health care. Unfortunately, my doctor’s office was not returning calls about the medication my physical therapist wanted me on. The pain plus the frustration of provider run-around wore me down.… Continue reading

Self-Care When Nothing Feels Good (Because Support Systems Sometimes Fail Us)

Self-Care When Nothing Feels Good (Because Support Systems Sometimes Fail Us) by SoAngieWrites.com

Taking care of ourselves requires identifying what soothes us. This can be tricky when you suffer from chronic pain, mental illness, or other conditions which cause consistent struggle. I often write about my chronic pain journey, but today I’m going to share a mental health story.

Three years ago I was limited to using the mental health services program accessible through my husband’s employer.… Continue reading

Shame Stories and Chronic Pain – Using Mindfulness to Heal

I woke up confused- fresh off a vivid, violent dream, and hurting from head to toe. Some days seem set before my feet hit the floor. Eyes open to yesterday’s struggles, and I’m wishing for a Teflon brain, so all my troubles could slide right off.

Painful mornings stack up, making it easy to slip into a story…

I feel too much pain.Continue reading

Courage is Contagious! The Value of Shared Humanity

Courage is Contagious! The Value of Shared Humanity by soangiewrites.com #courage #sharedhumanity #vulnerability #authenticity #resilience

This week I was in contact with several people facing difficult times. Awful appointments, trying therapies, and painful procedures. Cringe-worthy conversations, angst-filled anticipation, and some things left unresolved. Whew. Makes me tense just typing all of that. The end of July demanded our resilience, and damn, don’t you just want to rest?… Continue reading

Perspective and PTSD – Why it’s Off, and How to Cope

Perspective and PTSD - Why it's Off, and How to Cope by soangiewrites.com #PTSD #trauma #recovery

DOOM DESCENDS UPON THE CITY!!! or a beetle? Your brain decides.

Mountains out of molehills. Zero to sixty like a Corvette. Glass half empty.

The smallest infraction leads to tears. A slight worry grows to panic. A miserable day masquerades as a ruined life. And a reminder of a painful past event can morph into a full-fledged trauma response.… Continue reading
